New Special Olympics New Mexico Medical Forms
Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) announced that we must begin using new medical forms for 2019.  Use of the new forms became mandatory on January 1, 2019 and the Rockets have begun passing these out for anyone needing to update their medicals.  The new medicals include both an Athlete Registration section and Health History section that must be filled out by the athlete, parent or guardian.
Here is a link to the SONM 2019 Sports update that contains information about the form at the bottom, along with links to the new forms:  SONM 2019 Sports Update & Medical forms.  The links at the bottom of the update includes both English and Spanish versions of the forms and instruction
Rockets Team Shirts and Jerseys
Athletes and partners are supplied with their a Rockets Team shirt or Jersey the first time they participate in a sport that requires one.  This shirt and the athlete's number are paid for by the Rockets.  If the shirt or jersey needs to be replaced due to wear and tear, or outgrowing the old one, it is up to the individual to pay for the replacement (the team will pay for athlete's numbers to be added to the shirt or jersey).  Since these shirts and jerseys are required for some competitions, they need to remain the same for all members of the team.  This means that they may be hemmed for a better fit, but no other modifications should be made (e.g., removing sleeves, adding individual names, etc.)
Poly Hockey Season-ending Surprises
The last week of the Poly Hockey season was full of surprises.  Late winter storms cancelled four of the practices and then made driving to the tournament tricky for many teams.  Those Rockets that made the trip all did very well in their games.  Way to go Rockets!
During the tournament, Chevel Shepherd, winner of the 2018 season of The Voice, made a surprise appearance.  She took time to pose with many of the athletes and their families, and gave an acapella performance of two songs.  THANK YOU CHEVEL!
