SONM anticipates having Virtual Games throughout 2021. If restrictions are lifted enough, we may have our in-person sports. So far, the normal Poly Hockey season has been cancelled. In its place, SONM has created a 2021 Winter Virtual games. A team notice and signup was sent for Rockets to sign up for this. The Winter VG consists of 15 events divided into General Fitness and Poly Hockey categories. Athletes may compete in up to 4 events. Please check your email for more information.
We hope to be back to in-person sports soon. In the meantime, please help our athletes stay in good physical, emotional and spiritual health. We can all get through this together!
We have instituted a new feature in this section called a "sidebar calendar". It is linked to our main Calendar and shows upcoming events. The events are automatically updated, so it should be more current than it has been in the past.
SONM 2020 Virtual Games
For the both the SONM 2020 Summer Virtual Games and Fall Virtual Games, less than 10% of the state's athletes participated but over 20% of the Rockets Delegation took part (the most of any New Mexico delegation). We also had a significant number of golf partners that participated in the Fall Virtual Games. Congratulations to all of the athletes and partners that participated! We would like to extend a special thanks to the coaches that helped many of the athletes and helped make our VG team scoring event possible
SONM 2020 Virtual Games Drive-by Awards
Because of the restrictions for COVID-19, SONM held in-person drive-by awards at various locations for all of the athletes that participated in the Summer Virtual Games. Rather than have the Rockets drive in to Albuquerque, they set one up for the Rockets at the Municipal Court parking lot in Rio Rancho. RRPD Officers and Cadets made signs and participated in the awards presentations. This was also planned for the Fall Virtual Games, but the state restrictions prevented this. We would like to say "THANK YOU" to SONM and RRPD for taking the time to do this for the Rockets athletes.
SONM 2020 Posolé Olé
For the 2020 Posolé Olé Fundraiser, SONM set a goal of $30,000 and the Rio Rancho Rockets set a goal of $6,000. Thanks to our Rocket's families and supporters, we exceeded our goal and helped SONM exceed their goal. THANK YOU to all of those that were able to support our Posolé Olé fundraising efforts!
The Rockets annual mandatory team meeting is back on the schedule! This meeting is needed to disseminate critical information to our families, and to get feedback on ways to improve our delegation. Due to restrictions on in-person gatherings, we will be using Zoom to hold virtual meetings. There will be three meeting sessions and those with a Rocket's athlete will need to attend one. We will use a signup questionnaire to help keep the meeting sizes manageable. Since Zoom is available for both computer and phone access, we should be better able to accommodate all of our members.

2021 Rio Rancho Rockets "Rocket Blast" - SUSPENDED
Our annual recognition party ("Rocket Blast) is currently suspended. If the situation changes, we will consider having it later in the year or combining it with another activity.
